Full Visibility into Wireless Network Traffic Using sFlow - InMon Corporation Introduces the First Network Traffic Analysis Application Supporting sFlow for Wireless Networks
San Francisco, California — Sept. 25, 2007 — InMon Corporation, the leading supplier of traffic monitoring solutions for high-speed switched and routed networks, today announced the introduction of new versions of their popular sFlowTrend and sFlowTrend-Pro network traffic analysis applications which support sFlow® for Wireless. sFlow for Wireless is an industry standard extension to sFlow which includes data on 802.11 wireless traffic, such as wireless channels used, utilization of the channel, and encryption algorithm employed. It also includes the unique capability to provide visibility into wireless traffic which has been encrypted on the wireless link. The wireless extensions to sFlow are available as an sflow.org standard.
sFlowTrend is a free sFlow monitoring application, which provides a very easy way for network managers to utilize the sFlow capability built into many network switches. sFlowTrend-Pro extends sFlowTrend, adding features, such as the ability to monitor tens of switches simultaneously, and maintain a traffic history. With the latest version of sFlowTrend and sFlowTrend-Pro, customers can now manage the traffic on their sFlow equipped wireless network with the same level of detail they are used to with wired switches. The addition of a wireless tab into the products makes it easy to find wireless devices, and view wireless-specific detail on the associated traffic.
The new versions of sFlowTrend and sFlowTrend-Pro take advantage of the first implementation of sFlow for Wireless, available in ProCurve Networking by HP wireless products. More implementations of the standard are expected from leading network equipment vendors.
"sFlow for Wireless solves a significant problem for network managers running a wireless network." said Stuart Johnston, Chief Security Architect at InMon Corp. "Because wireless networks use a limited and shared medium, it is especially important to be able to monitor wireless traffic. In addition, because most wireless traffic is encrypted, until now, it has been particularly difficult to understand how wireless is being used. sFlow for Wireless, in conjunction with sFlowTrend or sFlowTrend-Pro, gives managers the visibility they need to make intelligent control decisions. The new standard also includes provisions to help with identifying rogue access points, and wireless intrusion detection, and so we can expect to see further types of security analysis for wireless networks in the future."

sFlow® is the industry standard for monitoring layer 2-7 switches, available in equipment from most leading network equipment vendors, including: Alcatel-Lucent (CGEP:PA, NYSE:ALA), Extreme Networks (Nasdaq:EXTR), Force10 Networks, Foundry Networks (Nasdaq:FDRY), ProCurve Networking by HP (NYSE: HPQ) and Hitachi (NYSE:HIT).
