Foundry Networks' New JetCore ASIC Delivers Hardware-Based Traffic Monitoring And Accounting Solutions For High-Speed Networks
JetCore-Powered High-Performance Switching & Routing Products Offer Wire-Speed Network Monitoring and Accounting Capabilities Based on HP's XRMON Packet Sampling Technology and IETF Draft Standard RFC 3176
San Jose, Calif. - January 14, 2002 - Foundry Networks®, Inc. (NASDAQ: FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, announced today the availability of hardware-based network monitoring and accounting capabilities in its 3rd generation JetCore™ ASIC-powered products, including the industry-leading FastIron® 4802 L2/3 switch. The new JetCore ASIC integrates Hewlett-Packard Company's patented XRMON packet sampling technology and sFlow, an IETF draft standard for network traffic monitoring and accounting (RFC 3176).
The integration of HP XRMON and sFlow in the JetCore ASIC enables Foundry to deliver wire-speed switching and routing performance with "always-on" fault and performance management, capacity planning, intrusion detection, security policing and precise network traffic accounting on all interface ports. "Our 3rd generation JetCore ASIC chipset sets an industry-leading benchmark for switching and routing performance, feature richness and scalability," said Bobby Johnson, president and CEO of Foundry Networks. "In addition, the new JetCore ASIC enables our service provider and enterprise customers to leverage accurate traffic monitoring and accounting capabilities to meet their revenue and business objectives," continued Johnson.
Existing traffic monitoring and export technologies lack the ability to deliver an accurate monitoring and accounting solution while maintaining wire speed switching and routing performance. Accuracy, scalable, high-performance and cost-effective monitoring and traffic accounting capabilities are essential requirements for next-generation high-speed enterprise and service provider networks. The JetCore ASIC's high-speed traffic monitoring and accounting capability allows carriers and service providers to transform subscriber usage data into a competitive advantage and effectively enable new business models based on accurate, real-time accounting for the use of network resources.
"Foundry's JetCore ASIC creates a high-performance platform for next-generation operational support systems, business support systems, billing and usage-management solutions," said Vikash Varma, general manager, HP OpenView Internet Usage Manager Program. "By harnessing accounting information at wire speed, carriers and metro service providers delivering Ethernet-based transparent LAN services can optimize new revenue sources, lower costs, and improve network efficiency and reliability."
With JetCore-powered switching and routing products, Foundry delivers leading network monitoring and traffic accounting capabilities, including:
- Accurate network traffic accounting, from Layer 2 up to Layer 7
- Integration with industry-leading accounting and billing applications
- Intrusion Detection and deliver full visibility of any network traffic, regardless of protocol (e.g., IPv4, IPX, AppleTalk, and IPv6)
- Precise network policing of network traffic everywhere, from the network Edge up to the network Core
- Identification of network bottlenecks within a network and complete packet header decode, from Layer 2 up to Layer 7
